The cultural lore of one of hip-hop’s greatest anthems, Summertime, by DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince has given us a living history so vivid of the joys of summer in America; from Philly (the song's inspiration), Los Angeles, Miami to New York, Atlanta to Chicago – where the song was recorded – to everywhere in between, that we just had to make an ode to a classic to inspire the next generation to carry on the culture.
As a kid from Philly and then moving away in the late 80s, the song became a nostalgic connection back to the only place Chris knew as home. So much so that Chris and his brother learned the lyrics and still, to this day, can recite them bar for bar, like so many of us can.
The tank top features a collage graphic of DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince from between takes of the Summertime video shoot imposing them sitting atop of the closing lyric from the first verse, “summer madness”, done in a font style reminiscent of the title font from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
